A man seated on a chair and a rock, carved in marble, raises a glass as in a toast. The glass overflows endlessly: the wine runs down his arm, his clothes and the stone until it fills the fountain basin, and rises back to the glass. The toast that never ends, the excess that stains everything it touches.
The wine of the fountain
The wine overflows from the glass, runs down the figure and the stone and falls into the basin (sound of the model).
The liquid flows in a closed circuit: a pump submerged in the basin lifts it through a pipe hidden inside the figure and the arm up to the glass; from there it overflows and runs down the sculpture back into the basin.
The wine
It does not have to be real wine: a stable dark red liquid that does not stain the marble (for instance water tinted with a fountain dye) gives the same effect and can be maintained throughout an exhibition.
The glass
Tinted resin glass with a broken rim, over which the liquid overflows.
To build it
Seated figure, chair and rock in marble (or cast stone / resin with a marble finish, lighter and easier to drill for the pipe).
Round marble basin with a moulded rim.
Submersible fountain pump and a flexible pipe hidden inside the sculpture up to the glass.
